Pigmentation and Dark Spots: Why They Occur and How We Treat Them

Hyperpigmentation — darker patches on the skin — occurs due to uneven production of melanin, the skin's natural pigment. It can appear in many forms and stem from various causes. That's why expert diagnosis and an individual approach are always essential.

Types of pigmentation

☀️ Solar Pigmentation (also known as age spots)
These appear due to long-term UV exposure without adequate protection. They typically occur on the face, backs of the hands, décolleté, or forearms, and range from light to dark brown with clearly defined edges.
Our approach:
• Mild cases: depigmenting serums, SPF 50+
• Advanced cases: chemical peels, microneedling with active ingredients, IPL or LED therapy

🔥 Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
This form appears after an inflammatory process — typically following acne, injury, or aggressive treatments. The skin darkens at the affected area due to increased melanin production. It is more common in darker skin types.
Our approach:
• Pigment reduction using AHA/PHA serums (depending on sensitivity)
• Mild peels, microneedling
• LED light therapy for calming and regeneration

🔄 Melasma (Chloasma)
A hormonally triggered type of pigmentation, most commonly affecting women. It is typically caused by pregnancy, hormonal contraception, or menopause. It appears as widespread, irregular patches, especially on the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip.
Our approach:
• Gentle, long-term care with targeted serums (e.g., tranexamic acid, niacinamide)
• Mesotherapy to regulate pigmentation
• Year-round photoprotection

Note: With melasma, complete removal cannot be guaranteed. The goal is to reduce and stabilize the condition.

Hyperpigmentation is an increasingly common concern we encounter in practice. It’s not just an aesthetic issue — it often signals hormonal changes, excessive sun exposure, or the skin’s response to inflammation or injury. Timely diagnosis and professional care are key to effective treatment.

How We Treat Pigmentation in Our Studio

Our goal is not just to cover up pigmentation, but to understand its root cause and support long-term results. We combine professional cosmetology, a holistic approach, and at-home care guidance.

🔬 During the treatment process:

• We analyze your skin and identify the type of pigmentation
• We select effective yet gentle treatments to even out skin tone

• We teach you how to properly protect your skin from UV exposure
• We support detoxification and hormonal balance if necessary

Reality Check: Some Types of Pigmentation Cannot Be Fully Removed

It's important to understand that not all types of pigmentation can be completely erased. For example, melasma tends to recur and is highly sensitive to external factors.

➡️ What we can achieve:
• Significantly lighten pigmentation
• Prevent its spreading and worsening
• Even out skin tone and improve overall complexion
• Stabilize the skin to make it more resilient and calm

While complete removal may not be possible, together we can achieve visible improvement and skin stability.
